Garlic is a great source of vitamin B6, selenium and manganese. These vitamins help support optimal health by reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke. They also play a role in maintaining a healthy immune system. Garlic has been used for centuries to treat colds and flu because it contains allicin, which acts as an antibiotic against bacteria that cause infections like pneumonia. In addition to being an antibacterial agent, garlic can lower blood pressure by relaxing muscles throughout your body (including those in your arteries) so they don’t have as much resistance when they contract during systole (the squeezing phase).
